The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) announced its 2018 winter-spring season which will run from January 15 through June 23 and which will include theater, music and dance performances, as well as long-standing festivals like the RadioLoveFest, for podcasts and public radio; Everybooty as part of New York City Pride; and the beloved DanceAfrica Festival. Highlights of the upcoming season include a production of Eugene O'Neill's "Long Day's Journey Into Night" starring Lesley Manville and Jeremy Irons, the world premiere of "Cellular Songs" by Meredith Monk, and the return of renown theater companies such as the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Maly Drama Theater of Russia.

"An exceptional array of theatrical experiences this season includes the return of the RSC with Sir Antony Sher's unmissable take on King Lear; Russia's Maly Drama Theatre with a revelatory Schiller production; and Sir Richard Eyre directing Long Day's Journey into Night with Lesley Manville and Jeremy Irons," said Joseph V. Melillo, executive producer of the Brooklyn Academy of Music. "With music from masters like Meredith Monk and Abdullah Ibrahim it is truly a season rich with resonant offerings that we look forward to sharing with our always adventurous audiences."

A first highlight of the season will be presented by New York artist Meredith Monk. The acclaimed composer, singer, director/choreographer and creator of new opera, music-theater works, films and installations returns to BAM with her newest music-theater work "Cellular Songs," from March 14 to March 18. Pairing voice with movement, instrumentation and a site-specific video installation, "Cellular Songs" is a continuation of Monk's works that explore human beings' interdependent relationship with nature.
Also in March, the Aga Khan Music Initiative, which promotes the education and performance of Central Asian music, will present "Qyrq Qyz," a multimedia performance with music by the Uzbek composer Dmitri Yanov-Yanovsky.

Sir Antony Sher and the legendary Royal Shakespeare Company return to BAM for the U.S. premiere of their acclaimed production of the classic "King Lear" from April 7 through April 29. "Long Day's Journey Into Night," Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning, autobiographical drama will be presented at BAM, from May 8 to May 27, under the direction of the highly-esteemed Richard Eyre. The play, widely regarded as one of the most powerful American works of the 20th century, will feature Tony- and Oscar-winning actor Jeremy Irons and critically-acclaimed stage and screen actress Lesley Manville

The Maly Drama Theater of Russia under director Lev Dodin will bring the classic "Love and Intrigue" by German poet, playwright and philosopher Friedrich Schiller to new life from June 6 to June 10.

Festivals include the 2018 edition of DanceAfrica led by the artistic director Abdel Salaam and Everybooty, BAM's celebration of New York City Pride month, among others.
