WHAT: BOURBON! At the Brooklyn Historical Society - September is National Bourbon Heritage Month: a chance to celebrate an American classic. But do you know the Brooklyn story of bourbon and whiskey? Or have you ever wondered where the word "bourbon" even comes from? (Hint: France). WHAT: Closing Celebration: "We Wanted a Revolution" - Come together to celebrate the exhibition "We Wanted a Revolution: Black Radical Women, 1965—85" with artists, activists and scholars. This daylong event honors the trailblazing artists in the exhibition, and highlights the intergenerational connections between art and activism. The event includes a curator tour with Catherine Morris and Rujeko Hockley; Conversations with Howardena Pindell, Andrianna Campbell, Barbara Chase-Riboud,Thomas Lax and Jawole Willa Jo Zollar on Blondell Cummings, as well as performances by Black women artists for Black Lives Matter.

WHAT: Church of Broken Pieces - Opening Reception-  In "Church of Broken Pieces," Theodore presents a body of photographs made on the streets of Philadelphia's African American neighborhoods, many of which are endangered by gentrification. The exhibition, named after a church close to Theodore's childhood home, explores the psychic, physical and technological translocation of black America. SATURDAY/ SUNDAYWHAT: Worlds Fair Nano - This two-day festival gives you an exciting glimpse into the future. The festival features a "Technology Playground" including a solar-powered car, a 500-foot electric skateboard racetrack, a 40-person virtual reality theater and a 2,000 square-foot drone arena, as well as the world's most socially advanced artificially intelligent robot named BINA48. Visitors can also partake in an interactive art experience and splash light on a 20-foot diameter canvas, watch the floating clouds and skyscape shift in a monet-esque reflection, or compose their own symphony by rearranging the light cubes of a room-scale installation piece. During the "Futurist Talks" speaker series fairgoers will learn about the future of artificial intelligence, vertical farming, art, psychedelic science from more than 40 experts and pioneers of future technology, art and science. WHAT: Brooklyn Book Festival - Where should we start? The festival is enormous with more than 300 national and international writers of fiction and nonfiction, poetry and graphic novels who will participate in panels, readings and other creative performances on 14 stages around Brooklyn Borough Hall. WHAT: JAPANFes Ramen Contest 2017 - Gather your ramen-squad and hit up the first Brooklyn Ramen contest ever! The contest will be held street fair-style at Myrtle Avenue, between Wyckoff Ave and St Nicholas Av, around the corner from the Myrtle Wykoff Avenue subway station. According to the organizers, this will be the best ramen contest ever because it features previous award winners, ramen restaurants straight from Japan and a total of 15 kind of ramen. There will also be live music by Japanese recording artists Kohei and Tia. And if you wish, you can dance, too.
