Bed Stuy’s major beer and wine fest Tap+Cork, presented by Arts + Crafts Inc., returns to Restoration Plaza on Saturday, August 12.

Tap+Cork – imagine the fun of summer festivals and neighborhood block parties combined with more than 60 different craft beers and artisan wines curated by local restaurants, bars and wine shops. Now pair this with tasty eats dished from neighborhood food spots – and you have Tap+Cork.

Tai Allen

The festival was born after a small Bad Boy vs. Roc-A-Fella-themed birthday party for Brooklyn poet, musician and visual artist Tai Allen turned into a 1,300 people event. It was then that he decided to join forces with Bed-Vyne Brew to combine his love for craft beers and his experience in creating and hosting events with the brewery’s expertise in craft beers, drinks and bar logistics.

“We want to highlight the hospitality that exists in central Brooklyn,” said Tap+Cork producer Tai Allen.

Since then, the festival has become bigger every year as more local breweries, bars, wine shops and neighborhood eateries and restaurants have joined to make this truly a for the community, by the community experience. Now in its fifth year, more than one thousand festival goers are expected to descend upon the day-long event.

Bed-Vyne Brew, Nostrand Wine and Brooklyn Tap House, among others, have contributed their knowledge to select the wines and beers presented at the festival. Featured breweries and wineries include Harlem Brew, Five Boroughs Brewing, Veltins’ Grevensteiner, Dyckman Brewery, Owl’s Brew, Brooklyn Oenology, Cherulin Thomas and Mouton Noir. There will be also a special focus on Caribbean beers from Trinidad, Barbados and Haiti – which will pair perfectly with the tasty treats from Khem’s Jerk Shop.

“We’re just here to serve the community,” said Allen. “We want everybody to have a good time, get the neighborhood block party feel, while enjoying the diverse portfolio of quality eats and drinks that local wine shops, breweries and neighborhood food spots have to offer – and thereby to drive traffic back to the neighborhood.”

As in previous years, there will be live music performances and sounds, including the now traditional Bad Boy vs. Roc-A-Fella theme, provided by DJ CEO and DJ Christopher Sealey.

The day-long festival will be accompanied by a series of events throughout the weekend, including TapNite Out on August 11.

General admission tickets are $35 and include 15 sample tastings. Attendees who want to upgrade their experience can get “Top Shelf” tickets for the DrinkBetter VIP Lounge, which will include a special three-hour tasting session with unlimited tastings of top-shelf curated selections, food and beverages.

The event will take place rain or shine, and guests are encouraged to get their tickets in advance.
