500 Men Making a Difference and Black Men Run join forces for the Bed Stuy 5K to inspire healthy, active habits
The third annual Bed Stuy 5K, hosted by 500 Men Making a Difference and Black Men Run, returns to the Herbert Von King Park on August 5, inviting runners of all levels to "Walk, Jog, Run to Spread Love."
Geared towards first-timers, everyday runners as well as true competitors, the Bed Stuy 5K was initiated by 500 Men Making a Difference, an organization which seeks to develop a long-lasting legacy through volunteer work, mentorship and leadership. The race coincides with the organization's annual Men's Day and aims to inspire active, healthy habits within the community.
This year, the race is joined by Black Men Run, an organization that encourages African-American men in NYC to get out and to be active as a way of becoming and staying healthy, both physically and mentally. With a dedicated community of runners, from pre-teens to septuagenarians, the organization's camaraderie and vitality has inspired hundreds, both men and women, to take up running - and just in the spirit of this year's race theme - to "Walk, Jog, Run to Spread Love."
The proceeds from the Bed Stuy 5K will benefit the Von King Park Conservancy, a local initiative that not only maintains the park's grounds, but also develops art and culture programs for the community.
