The 5th Afro-Latino Festival highlights the contributions of women of the diaspora, features more than 30 performing artists, professionals, activists, educators and creators
The Afro-Latino Festival of New York returns to Bed Stuy's Restoration Plaza with a 'Tribute to Women of the Diaspora' on Saturday, July 8. The two-day event will feature more than 30 performing artists, panelists, professionals, activists and creators at various locations throughout NYC.
This year, the Afro-Latino Festival will honor the contributions of women throughout the diaspora by celebrating female artists such as Latin Grammy winner Milly Quezada, Alison Hinds, Amara La Negra, Calma Carmona and more. Additionally, Huracan Dance Company will excite the audience with a Salsa performance.

Visitors can also explore the African-Latino arts and crafts market, enjoy culinary presentations by Food Network's 'Chopped' winner Santana Caress Benitez or experience art installations by the multi-faceted artist Zahira Kelly, who will co-host the day alongside DJ Big Nito.
The two-day festival will kick off on Friday, July 7, with an Afro-Latin symposium at Harlem's Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture; the Liberación Film Festival featuring documentaries from Curacao, Brazil, Haiti and the Dominican Republic; and an awards ceremony honoring Peru's ex-Minister of Culture Susana Baca, writers Shirley Campbell Barr and Elizabeth Acevedo, social activist Zahira Kelly, educator Nadia Lopez, AfroCrowd-founder Alice Backer and former Miss Universe Gloria Karamanites.

In its 5th year, the Afro-Latino Festival continues to celebrate the contributions of African descendants from Latin America and the Caribbean by sharing art, music, food and cultural education, and showcasing the beauty, history and cultural heritage of diaspora. The festival aims to create a space where children can learn about their heritage and be proud of who they are, as well as to provide the cultural and educational background for those who do not know about the importance and the magnitude of the African presence in Latin America.
