Memorial Day Weekend Event Picks

With a long weekend on deck, the real question is what NOT to do. Don't holla at ladies like you on a one day pass. Don't bring flowers to folks with allergies. Don't bring your jump off to your best friend's wedding.

With a long weekend on deck, the real question is what NOT to do. Don't holla at ladies like you on a one day pass. Don't bring flowers to folks with allergies. Don't bring your jump off to your best friend's wedding. Don't eat chocolate while wearing white pants. Don't call people after 11:00 p.m., unless they're expecting your call or are butt naked and ran out of data for the month. Don't call your dad without a good reason. But, what you should do: take the advice from this weekend roundup and mature your way into a fun three-day situation.

I'm not even going to talk about one's trials and tribulations, because that's a never ending conversation. Instead, let's talk about sex, baby. Let's talk about you and me. Let's talk about all the good things and smoking sess baby...well at least until Monday. Keeping the gully at one hundred, here's a few suggestions to keep you from getting pregnant on Sunday. But if you end up with child, name that baby after me - I ain't got no kids!

It's a lot happening, so here's my picks:

Dance Africa, BAM Howard Gilman Opera House, 30 Lafayette St., May 26 - May 29, $25+ (Fort Greene)

This year's 40th anniversary celebration of DanceAfrica "The Healing Light of Rhythm: Tradition and Beyond" pays tribute to the music and movement traditions of Guinea, featuring two powerful ensembles that represent the diverse cultures of the African diaspora and the transformative power of movement. Members of Philadelphia's hip-hop based Illstyle & Peace Productions join with members of New York City's Forces of Nature and the drummers and dancers of Asase Yaa, performing a joyful collision of traditional and contemporary styles. Then, Wula Drum and Dance Ensemble, a master group of Guinean dancers and musicians from the New York City area, present a spirited showcase of West African culture along with the BAM/Restoration Dance Youth Ensemble.

Makossa, Our Wicked Lady, 153 Morgan Avenue, Saturday, 2:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m., Free (East Williamsburg)

In 2017, the Makossa Brooklyn Cookout enters its eighth consecutive summer. Still considered one of the best outdoor summer soirees in Brooklyn (and officially voted one of the 20 Best Summertime Parties in NYC by Time Out in 2014), Wonway Posibul of Latin Soul Brothers links up with the NYC-based event promotion team Rare Form to bring his famous Makossa sound from San Francisco to NYC, creating a bi-coastal vibe like none other. The monthly cookouts have garnered a loyal following, lots of acclaim and success since its birthplace, the backyard of Fresthetic, a boutique / gallery in Williamsburg.

From their FB event page: "Believe it or not, the eighth season of #MakossaBK is upon us. Putting this together every year is no easy feat. So we want to thank everyone for the anticipation and excitement they bring to this event every summer. We know there are tons of options during the summer months. I Don't Do Clubs and Mixmag have included us as "Must Visit NYC Summer Parties" for 2017. We're no longer BK's best-kept secret. Arrive early, stay late and we'll handle the rest." RSVP: www.makossacookout.com/bk
