On Friday, May 5, from 7:30pm — 9:30pm, at St. Joseph's College in Clinton Hill, actress Gabourey Sidibe will be joined by actress, writer and producer Lena Dunham (of the HBO series Girls) for an intimate discussion in which Sidibe will present her funny and candid new memoir This Is Just My Face: Try Not to Stare.  The evening will feature talks on writers, satire and the state, also featuring Masha Gessen, Mo Rocca, Alexander Hemon and others as part of the PEN World Voices Festival.

Gabourey Sidibe skyrocketed to international fame in 2009 when she played the leading role in Lee Daniels's acclaimed movie Precious, based on Sapphire's novel Push. In her new memoir This Is Just My Face: Try Not to Stare, she shares a one-of-a-kind life story in a voice as fresh and challenging as many of the unique characters she's played onscreen.

Sidibe explores her Bed-Stuy/Harlem family life, her first job as a phone sex "talker," and her unconventional rise to fame as a movie star, with self-knowing dispatches on friendship, depression, celebrity, haters, race, and weight. At the Friday event, Sidibe screens the trailer for her directorial debut The Tale of Four and talks about her work on stage with celebrated fellow actor, writer and director Lena Dunham. A book signing will follow.

The event is hosted by Greenlight Bookstore. Tickets are $28 and include a hardcover copy of This Is Just My Face. Additional books will be available for purchase. St. Joseph's College is located at 245 Clinton Avenue in Brooklyn. For more information and to purchase tickets, go here.
