Thirty-seven people were reported injured after a Long Island Rail Road train derailed Wednesday morning at the Atlantic Terminal near 139 Flatbush Avenue in Fort Greene, Brooklyn.
"All sorts of chaos in our hood this morning after a LIRR train derailment at Atlantic Ave. Hopefully just minor injuries," one resident tweeted.
The New York City Fire Department said all injuries reported are non-life threatening.
Roads near Atlantic and Flatbush Avenues have been closed and commuters should expect traffic delays, NYC Emergency Management said.
Expect delays in and out of Atlantic Terminal, according to the LIRR Twitter feed.
"We pray for a speedy recovery for those affected in this morning's Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) commuter train crash," City Councilwoman Laurie Cumbo, who represents the 35th District where the derailment occurred, said in a statement.
"While the majority of the incidents have been reported as non-life-threatening, we recognize that occurrences such as these can be traumatic events that will be carried for a lifetime. As the investigation into this incident remains ongoing, I want to thank our incredible emergency personnel for their immediate response."
