Headlining their inaugural event is hip-hop artist Talib Kweli. Hosted by News 12 Brooklyn anchor Asha McKenzie, AENY's gala will honor Manuel Burgos, chief executive officer, By The Numbers Consulting Services; Duane Kinnon, president & CEO, The Kinnon Group, LLC; and Ella J. The office of New York Senator Roxanne Persaud will give welcome remarks as AENY also celebrates AENY Executive Director Catherine Green's 40th birthday.

"We've made great strides, but there is so much more work to do. Our 1st Annual Gala will showcase our passionate work as an organization thus far and galvanize our village of supporters to reinforce our future in our goal to raise $100,000," said Green.

"We are enthusiastic to honor Ella and Manuel who represent a few of AENY's original village of supporter's and Duane, someone we have long admired as an advocate for arts and education in East New York and Brownsville."

Manuel Burgos is a 2016 Award of Excellence honoree because he is a strong advocate of community-based arts programming and as his firm employs a number of East New York residents. Through his company "By The Numbers Consulting Services" Burgos promotes opportunities for minority and woman-owned businesses and local hiring at construction projects.
