In celebration of New York City African Restaurant Week, Brooklyn's Best Honor will celebrate its 2nd Anniversary saluting pioneer designer and entrepreneur Moshood; civic leader and humanitarian Andre Lewis; along with award winning actor, philanthropist and activist Gbenga Akinnagbe.

The festival will take place on October 11, at Madiba Restaurant, located at 195 DeKalb Ave in Brooklyn. The event also will include live performances from singer/songwriter Darryl Copeland and friends along with special honors and authentic African cuisine in celebration of Brooklyn's African Diaspora.

Originally from Lagos, Nigeria, Moshood made his mark in New York in the early 1980's creating fluid, elegant, timeless, tailored designs that embraces the traditional beauty of Afrika with a Western flavor. Celebrating over 20 years in his flagship Brooklyn store, Moshood is known throughout the tri-state area for his tireless work mentoring up-and-coming designers, entrepreneurs and neighbors while participating in countless benefits and charities.

Andre Lewis

A graduate of the Entrepreneurship Program at Columbia Business School, Andre Lewis is the creator of Uber Academic — a private tutoring, test prep and academic camp.  After competing in Crain's Perfect Pitch, Uber Academic's was accepted into the Harlem Garage Incubator which served as its headquarters and the launching site to foster the agency's goal to use $1.2 million to reach over 300 students. A serial entrepreneur, Lewis started his first successful educational venture at the age of 16 and spends his summer serving as the Director of Camp Bed Stuy where campers ages 4 to 15 get to enjoy the wonders of creative and performing arts, culture, sports and nature.

Brooklyn based/Nigerian actor Gbenga Akinnagbe, is best known for his ground breaking role in HBO's hit series "The Wire "and reoccurring roles in CBS The Good Wife. He's appeared in "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3" with Denzel Washington and John Travolta and can be seen as a strong supporting character in the 2016 summer blockbuster "Independence Day 2". A frequent guest on Huff Post Live and Al Jazeera, where he speaks on social justice issues, Gbenga recently launched, "Liberated People", an eco-friendly socially conscious lifestyle brand, that works with nonprofits around the world and the Brooklyn based furniture line Enitan which partners with local artists to created inspired vintage and repurposed furniture.

Proceeds from Brooklyn Best Honors October 2016 affair will benefit Safe Horizon's Jane Barker Brooklyn Child Advocacy Center, which provides an essential community response to New York City's most vulnerable victims of violence and abuse.
