In recent months New York officials have boasted about the consistent decline in crime across all five boroughs.  The shift came after months of procedural planning and a new slew of rookie officers getting promoted.

"We said the last two years that we could have a safer city and a fairer city at the same time, and these statisticsÂ… prove it," Mr. de Blasio said during a press conference.

While theft and robbery related offenses are declining, rape and homicide offenses are consistent.  According to a recent report, a Prospect Heights woman successfully fought off her would-be rapist on Wednesday.

Investigators explain that the incident occurred on Park Place near Vanderbilt Avenue around 1 a.m. when a man tried to sexually assault a 30-year-old woman.  The woman reportedly fought her attacker and screamed for help until he fled from the scene on foot.  Shortly afterwards, the victim contacted the authorities and described the attacker as a light-skinned male, about 5 feet, 9 inches tall.   The victim also stated that her attacker was wearing a backpack and a backward hat.

Although no arrests have been made, police are actively searching for a 20- to 30-year-old Hispanic male suspect.
