This past weekend a barrage of gunfire claimed a life and injured six others in Brooklyn and Staten Island.  According to a recent report, Unique Gilkes had just celebrated turning 25 when he fell victim to reckless shooting around 4:40 a.m. in Crown Heights.

“That was my little brother,” said Jason Love, 26. “It was his birthday today.”

Gilkes leaves behind two children and a loving family who waited at Brookdale University Hospital awaiting the heart-breaking news.   Several local hospitals were flushed with victims as two men were killed and six were wounded.

Investigators believe the shootings were part of five distinct incidents across the city.  Two men were immediately arrested in connection with the gunfire but investigators are aggressively questioning all witnesses to find more leads.
