Police: Fire in Prospect Lefferts Gardens Claims Life and Injures 8 Firefighters

According to a report released late Monday evening, a four alarm blaze in the Prospect Lefferts Gardens section of Brooklyn claimed the life of a young woman as she attempted to escape. Investigators believe the fire started around 6 p.m.

According to a report released late Monday evening, a four alarm blaze in the Prospect Lefferts Gardens section of Brooklyn claimed the life of a young woman as she attempted to escape.   Investigators believe the fire started around 6 p.m. in a single family home at at Rodgers and Bedford Avenue, belonging to a mother and son.

Multiple firefighters, ambulances and police officers responded to the scene where an adult male son escaped the engulfing flames with only minor injuries.  During their attempts to contain the fire, 8 firefighters were injured at the scene and required medical attention.  Five firefighters were rushed to Cornell Hospital where they were treated for their injuries before emergency personnel listed their conditions as stable.  Three other firefighters were brought to Kings County Hospital to be treated, also in stable condition.
