The end of February is always a weird time to party in NYC, and it's mainly because the weather is unpredictable. Sometimes it's completely freezing and other times it's a bit balmy. So planning for it becomes a challenge, though people are eager to get social.
The holiday credit cards are almost paid down and you're finally over that dude who stood you up, for the last time, on Valentine's Day. So now some socializing with adult beverages is on he menu.
I especially enjoy the end of February, because it's my birthday week, and although I don't always have a celebration for it, I am this year, and it's gonna be a ton of fun. Perhaps it's a Black History month event that's on your agenda or an Oscars viewing party on your docket.
But either way, dress in layers so that you can peel up or peel down if the weather gets a bit schizophrenic, and check out some Brooklyn events that I think will be fun!
FRIDAY

You can walk it out and get some FitBit activity as you take this art crawl through Downtown Brooklyn. You probably didn't eeeen know it was so much art work downtown Brooklyn, which means that you've missing out on some cutting edge art at these alternative art spaces. It was started in 2009 and is now bigger and better than before. Beat Nite is done in produced by Norte Maar and this edition is in conjunction with BRIC and the after party is from 8pm-10pm ($5 cover) at BRIC House. Wonderground is back in Bed-Stuy, this time at Bed Vyne Cocktail, the sister bar to Bed Vyne Brew and an amazing place to experience the Wonderground sound. Playing everything that makes you move your butt, Wonderground is a fun way to spend your Friday night and it's at a stylishly designed bar with a top-notch cocktail menu, a tight selection of ciders and artisinal wines and several delicious beers on tap. This is a serious cocktail situation right here. You bring any mixer you want and the mixologist will turn it into a cocktail. Prune juice? Do it! Clam juice? Let's go! Pressed fresh nectar from Casaba Melon? Why not! It's in their seriously sexy, quasiy-private loft on Douglas Street. In fact, if the mixologist fancies the ingredient and uses it to make other cocktails, you and four friends get a free drink! Author David Strachan wrote a memoir about his life as a commercial airline's pilot, yet the book, Playing The Game is both is both a memoir and a handbook for survival for young men and women of color in 21st-century America. He gives step by step instructions on how to become an airline pilot and features the story of poor black teens in Brooklyn, who despite all the odds, went on to become professional airline pilots, who are now in the cockpit of the most sophisticated commercial airplanes in the country. He'll be signing the book and telling personal stories about his life and struggles against institutional racism and his fight to reach his goals. Click here to go to the event page

No Parking On The Dance Floor is a Flow Arts centric dance party that moves around NYC, but always promises great tunes and a great crowd, as all the flow artists are doing there thing to the beat. Flow art is a general term used to describe the intersection of a variety of movement-based disciplines including dance, juggling, fire-spinning, and object manipulation. Brooklyn Urban dZong is a great space in brooklyn with a sprung dance floor and awesome roof, which is a fun place to hear a great line up of tough DJs including $mall Change (started the party), DJ Reaganomics and my man DJ Nappy G, who just got added to the bill.
