According to a recent study by RealtyTrac, which analyzed the affordability of 475 counties through October 2014, Kings County—also known as Brooklyn—was the least affordable in the nation.
The study gauges affordability by measuring the percentage of the locality's median monthly household income that is required to make monthly payments on a median-priced home in the area.
Only five years ago, the prospect of moving to Brooklyn was the greatest financial challenge. Today, for both its new and longtime residents, the challenge is being able to stay.
On Saturday, February 6, State Senators Jesse Hamilton and Velmanette Montgomery, Assemblymembers Walter Mosley and Jo Anne Simon and City Councilmember Laurie Cumbo will host "Know Your Rights," a housing forum for tenants.
Residents who are concerned about whether their housing stability or residents who simply would like to be armed with the facts are invited to participate. The forum is an opportunity to learn about rent stabilization rules, rent protections for seniors, affordable apartments soon opening in the neighborhood, how to apply for lotteries and more!
