Dear lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning youth, New York's firefighters and EMT workers want to let you know, "It gets better."
In a video, entitled, "It Gets Better," 12 gay, lesbian and transgender firefighters and paramedics share personal stories of how they came out, in an effort to give hope to young people struggling with their sexual orientation or being bullied because of who they are.
On Monday, November 23 at 3:30pm in the St. Francis College, located at 180 Remsen Street, in the Maroney Forum for Arts, Culture & Education (Room 7402), the newly formed LGBTQ club at St. Francis College will screen the video and invite some of the NYPD workers to speak to its student body about it first-hand.
"The LGBTQ club appreciates the investment of time and support as students navigate their own personal journey in sexual identity, gender expression, and career success," said Health Promotion Professor Michele Montecalvo, who runs the club.
The newly formed LGBTQ club at St. Francis is a groundbreaking part of the colleges more than 150 year history. The Club seeks to create a safe and supportive place for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning students at the College. It is not an exclusive club, all allies are welcome to participate.
