The arms of gentrification in Brooklyn are bountiful and spread far and wide. Few will dispute the impact of the borough’s rapid real estate development on the demographic makeup, cost of living and culture. But, perhaps, one of the loudest and most obvious outgrowths of the recent changes is seen in the arrival of the hipster culture.

In this video, Brooklyn-born comic Jimmy Kimmel concluded his week-long stay in Brooklyn taping Jimmy Kimmel Live! by reflecting one how much the borough has changed since his childhood. Kimmel riffs Spike Lee’s 1989 classic “Do the Right Thing” with Do the White Thing, set in Bedford-Stuyvesant Brooklyn and featuring all-star cameos by actors Billy Crudup, Zooey Deschanel, Rosie Perez and Flavor Flav!

  1. I think this is one of the most insensitive spoofs he could do, talk about adding gasoline to a fire. This is a type of spit in your face spoof. He (Jimmy Kimmel) should have used “Birth of a Nation” by D.W. Griffith. This is nothing short of an insult to poor and low income people predominately Black and Brown, who have been displaced by “planned” development. This would not be a problem if black people were not RED LINED from buying real estate in Bed Stuy as they were in the 1960-1970-1980s and so on. Hope you print this.

    1. Right on Mr. Harris. I couldn’t have said it better. I live in Crown Heights and what’s taking place should be considered crimes against humanity not the brunt of a joke. This is happening all across the country in communities of color, by design. Modern day colonization with Bank of America and Chase on every other corner funding this scheme, the supremacy runs deep. My answer to the red- lining is to let those banks feel the burn, you can’t have my money to help assist in the demise of my community. And Jimmy Kimmel will not be watched in my home…
