Church, universally, has been viewed as a place where anyone, despite their "sins," can begin again. Now, Kings County District Attorney Ken Thompson is offering this same opportunity to all residents of Brooklyn, as it concerns the law.
Beginning Friday, June 19 - Saturday, June 20, from 9:00am - 3:00pm at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Fort Greene, a judge and court attorneys will be on hand to vacate (dismiss) all warrants that have resulted from summons for minor offenses.
An unanswered summons will eventually lead to an arrest warrant, and an outstanding warrant can affect one's ability to apply for a job or obtain public housing, hinder an application for citizenship (naturalization) and prevent one from receiving some student loans.
Sponsored by the office of Brooklyn D.A. Ken Thompson, the program is called "Begin Again," and it is an opportunity for local residents to clear their records of minor offenses.
These offenses may include trespassing, spitting, loitering, disorderly conduct, walking an unleashed dog, drinking alcohol in public, drinking alcohol underage, riding a bicycle on the sidewalk, making unreasonable noise, etc.
