The warm weather has returned, right along with our other favorite summer fetish-- the Wallabout Walking Tours!
Get to know the rich industrial and residential history of the Wallabout section of Fort Greene/Clinton Hill through a free, guided walking tour that explores 400 years of history through a survey of the area's historic architecture and landmarks.

The first tour kicks off Saturday, May 30, at 11:00am in Fort Greene Park and will continue every last Saturday of the month through September 26th (May 30, June 27, July 25, August 29 and September 26).
Hosted by the Myrtle Avenue Revitalization Project LDC (MARP), in collaboration with the Fort Greene Park Conservancy, the Wallabout section north of Myrtle Avenue is listed as an historic district on the National Register of Historic Places.

"We often hear about how Brooklyn is changing so quickly and we want to present an opportunity to learn about the past, and reflect on its impact on our present. Our tours are making our neighborhood's rich, diverse history accessible to all residents," said Meredith Phillips Almeida, executive director at MARP.

The walk will begin in Fort Greene Park Visitor's Center and wind its way through the neighborhood's beautiful mix of pre-Civil War homes and late 19 Century industrial district just outside the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The tour will focus on how the neighborhood has developed from when the Dutch first arrived in the early 1600s and highlight notable residents, such as Author Walt Whitman and Doo-Wop Singer Little Anthony.
The tour-- a 2-hour, 1.5 mile walk-- will pass the home of the first professional baseball player, the birthplace of Michael Jordan, The Chocolate Factory (a factory that at one time made Tootsie Rolls) and conclude at Walt Whitman's former home, located at 99 Ryerson Street.
