Lewis, a thirty-something tenor saxophone phenom recently dropped his debut album Divine Travels, described by critics as a deferential, mostly unpretentious bluesy free jazz recording he chose to make without the safety net of a pianist or accompanying horn. Part-John Coltrane spirituality and part-Sonny Rollins inventiveness, throughout the album, he possesses an assured calmness of an old soul inhabiting his sound.
Musician, poet and composer Larry Roland is a bassist whose music and poetry are rooted in the colorful and rhythmic history of classic Africans in America! Like his ancestors, Larry continues the tradition, making significant contributions to the identity of modern American culture in the 21st century.
The duo will play a special, intimate performance at Common Grounds, located at 376 Tompkins Avenue in Bed-Stuy.
