During a closed door meeting last week, NYPD union leader Ed Mullins asked Mayor Bill de Blasio to publicly denounce Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito for wearing an "I can't breathe" tee shirt but de Blasio refused, the Daily News reports.

In a radio interview on AM 970 The Answer, Mullins, president of the Sergeants Benevolent Association, said that the union bosses asked de Blasio to repudiate the council speaker and that when they mayor was asked point blank if he'd say he disagreed with her, Mullins said he ignored them.

'[He said] she's not his puppet, and that she felt very strongly about a grand jury decision," Mullins said during the radio show.rallyMullins then turned around and defended the cops who, during both funerals of slain police officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos turned their backs on the mayor stating, "They didn't break a single law, and they didn't utter a single word," he said.
