The tense relationship between New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and the city's police officers is casting a shadow over the city's chances to host the Democratic National Convention in 2016, the Daily News writes.
The national party is expected to pick a host city in the next few weeks, but a source familiar with the Democratic National Committee's decision-making process says they're worried about the optics of whether the police will turn their backs on the mayor.
And they don't want side stories, said the source. They want the story to be squarely on the convention.
Sergeants Benevolent Association president Ed Mullins said there's no guarantee the bitterness will end in time for the 2016 convention:
"There's no solution in sight," said Mullins. "If the DNC were here next week, there's a good chance that cops would turn their backs [on de Blasio] again."
