Celebrating New Years Eve can be stressful. Whether from the pressure of showing out-of-town friends a good time, to picking the right spot to ring it in. And then, of course, who wants to spend a months rent on a night that you'll likely be too drunk to even remember. With that in mind, I've culled several event selections for you, so that you can have some direction to your choices. None of them are expensive, and though that term is relative, I'm using a seventy-five bucks as the "expensive" threshold.
You've waited this long, the day before NYE, so take my advice, when you see something on this list and you think you want to go, don't dawdle, click a link and get some tickets! And don't forget to set aside some cash for a cab, because all that drinking and driving makes no sense, so please, don't do it. If you want to spend as much on a cab as you did on your entire night out on NYE, hit up Uber and pay that surge pricing (Uber, c'mon, work with the people for NYE!)
Without further ado, here's some amazing events in Central BROOKLYN (and one in Manhattan), where you can ring in the New Years on the (inebriated) good foot:
WONDERGROUND
Quality party in a craft beer/artisinal wine bar. 370 Tompkins Avenue. WonderGround is normally a bi-weekly, Friday night party at Bed Vyne Brew, which is on the corner of Putnam St. and Tompkins Ave in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, and on any given Friday, it's a complete JAM, with DJ Silence on the wheels, Comrade Cav doing insanity and Mr. Bethel on the coolout! So I would imagine that NYE is going to be even...jammier? That might not be a word, but delicious is definitely a word that describes the everyday selection of draft and vino (try the Bed Vyne wine brand) at BVB, so with a cheap $10 cover charge after 10pm, WonderGround falls into the "can't be beat" category of NYE parties. NO ORDINARY MONKEY
At a new venue in Greenpoint that features a stellar sound system 98 Meserole St. The most amazing part of the night for celebrating NYE 2015 at the No Ordinary Monkey party, is not the super awesome party itself, which I have been to a few time over the years and which pretty much guarantees a great dancing experience, or the fact that it's in the new venue Good Room, which I've heard has a great sound system and that on said sound system are the Monkey DJs. It's not even that an open bar will greet party goers from 10pm-12midnight and that it's only going to set you back $50 in advance and $65 at the door....no; the real reason why you win by celebrating NYE at Monkey this year is because at 12 midnight will be a live performance of "Stand On The Word" by Phyliss Joubert & The Joubert Singers. If David Mancuso made it familiar and Larry Levan made it famous, while Walter Gibbons discovered it, there's no reason why you can't be the few who have witnessed the song performed outside of the choirs Crown Heights Church. TIKI DISCO
Tiki Disco has turned into a burgeoning Dance Music institution and this year it's at Sugar Hill Supper Club, 615 Dekalb Ave (corner of Nostrand), which I bet you've never been to, even if you live in Bed-Stuy. Hell, I remember when DJ Eli Escobar used to spin my Sunday Night parties at Halo, right before the digital DJ became the norm. Helping bring his records downstairs from the cab, then having him rock is still a great memory. He's since become a rather rad producer, in the dance music space a well as a featured DJ across the land and sea; but his best boogie contribution to Brooklyn is the Tiki Disco! New Years Eve should be so lucky! Go to their Facebook Event Page to get ticket info.
GET A GRIP ENT & LUNAR NYC NYE 2015 Secret Location
This is one of those secret location jawnts, in Brooklyn, but it's looking to be a real winner! It's going to be Exotic entertainment, which should be mandatory, just in case you had a bad relationship with boobies in 2014. and it will also be body art, so best believe boobies will be painted. A light show, visual art, food, champagne toast and more! It's being billed as a sexy affair, which is a great way to ring in the New Year and at only $20 in advance and $30 at the door, you can't beat it with a stick. AND it's a 1 Hour Open Bar. Doors open at 9pm. Hit their Facebook Event Page, don't play yourself....Hint...It's in Bed-Stuy
FORWARD 899 Bergen St
This is one of those NYE parties that speaks for itself. The new and beautiful, Crown Heights restaurant and event venue Berg"N, has went and booked the boss, Rich Medina to DJ their NYE party. They've also booked the Afro-Parisian, R&B band Les Nubians, who are coming up on their 20 year anniversary, to perform at their NYE party. Hosted by FON. They're charging $20 in advance so I suggest you click your way to the Ticket Information. Nuff said, GET OVER THERE
FUTURE OLD SCHOOL 641 Classon Avenue
There will be nothing oxymoronic about this NYE celebration, besides its name. Apparently, they'll be playing some future flavors and also banging your body with old school classics, which is how it should be done anyway! Friends & Lovers is the venue, holding down Classon Avenue in Crown Heights. It's a flat $20 and it's also an open bar for an hour, so get there early to take advantage of it. It's quality DJ's with Dash Speaks, Friends w Benefits & NSR (opening set by SoulNice), who will bless you with a champagne toast at midnight. It's a come as you are classic, where dancing like nobody is looking, is strongly encouraged. FIND OUT ABOUT IT (aka click that link!)
