It has become a holiday shopping tradition. In 2010, American Express founded Small Business Saturday to help businesses with their most pressing need — getting more customers.

The day encourages people to shop at small businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The single day has grown into a powerful movement, and more people are taking part than ever before.

In Bedford-Stuyvesant, the Bed-Stuy Gateway BID is working with the local merchants along Fulton Street, providing support and encouraging local residents to think local before heading out their neighborhood to spend their dollars.

Whether it be on Franklin Avenue in Crown Heights, the Brooklyn Cultural Arts District in Fort Greene or Fulton Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Saturday is a time for Central Brooklyn residents to invest their dollars back into their local merchants.
