It's back again for a second year: "Soundtrack '63," a live music and multimedia millennial retrospective of the Civil Rights Movement.
Produced by Fort Greene's 651 Arts, in partnership with Soul Science Lab and Elektric Breakfast, Soundtrack '63 features a host of amazing artists who breathe new life into the sights and sounds that shaped the music of an era. From the Black empowerment songs of James Brown to the outcries for justice for Mike Brown, "Soundtrack '63" entertains while illuminating attention around one of the single most important movements in history with liberation messages that remain relevant today.
"Soundtrack '63's" dynamic roster of credited soul, jazz, and Hip-Hop artists include Blitz the Ambassador, John Robinson ("JR"), Raphael "RAII" Smith & Whitney Keaton (RAIIWK), Chen Lo, and Asante Amin all supported by an 18-piece orchestra.
With exclusive commentary from Dr. Cornel West and poets Sonia Sanchez and Abiodun Oyewole of The Last Poets and compelling images, the musical theater style presentation takes audiences on a journey from the continent through the music that shaped an era!
