Crime is down 30 percent for the week of September 1 — September 7, 2014, in the 81st Precinct, covering the eastern half of Bedford-Stuyvesant.

According to CompStat, there were 28 total reported incidents in the 81st Pct., compared to 40 incidents during this same week last year. For the 28-day cycle, crime is down 17 percent, with 125 reported incidents, compared to 150 incidents during this same time period in 2013.

And year to date, crime is up 10 percent, with 1,064 reported incidents, compared to 970 during this same time period last year.

Year to date, there have been five reported murders, the same number at this same time last year.

The biggest percentage drop in crime so far is seen in the number of felony assaults— an 18 percent decrease— with 214 reported assaults compared to 262 last year. And the biggest percentage jump is in the number of rapes— a 111 percent increase— with 19 reported so far this year, compared to 9 last year.

Shooting:

On Thursday, September 11, at around 11:15am in front of 98A Lewis Avenue a 32-year-old man identified as Deon Dirton was shot one time in his upper left thigh. The victim's injuries were non life-threatening. Detectives are working the case, and no arrests have been made.

Shots Fired:

On Thursday, September 11, at around 1:20am on the corner of Malcolm X Blvd and Bainbridge St., there were numerous calls of shots fired. A canvass of the area found no one was shot but numerous shell casing in the area. Officers did discover an auto parked in front of 221 Bainbridge street with numerous bullet holes in it. Detectives are working the case, and no arrests have been made.
