There's a theory that Bed-Stuy resident Robert Gore is actually two people, not one. I'm just sayin'...
Take a look, for example, at how many hours he spends working, planning, volunteering and playing in a single day. And then you decide if it is humanly possible for one person.
Robert Gore is an emergency medicine physician at Kings County Hospital. Maintaining a high level of alertness and acuity for a constant flow of patients with a broad spectrum of ailments-- many of which are life-threatening-- would seem enough to keep the average person's mind and body occupied.
But in addition to working as an attending E.R. physician, Dr. Gore also serves as the clinical assistant professor at SUNY Downstate in the Department of Emergency Medicine.
And that's not all.
Dr. Gore is the founder and executive director of the KAVI (Kings Against Violence Initiative), a hospital-, school- and community-based youth violence intervention prevention program targeting teens who have been injured as a result of violence or who are at risk for violent injury.
He is also the founder and director of the Minority Medical Student Emergency Medicine (MMSEM) Summer Fellowship, a mentoring and enrichment program in emergency medicine with a focus on project development for underrepresented minorities .
Now add those hours up... That's already about, let's say, 36 hours in one day...
And that's still not all.
Dr. Gore, who is an avid snowboarder, surfer and international medical consultant, most recently has embarked on his latest assignment, The Global Empowerment Project-- a non-profit organization and docu-series about travel and philanthropy through community projects.
GEP-- founded by Gore and his partners Brian Deka PawPau and Mark Baptiste-- held a fundraiser event on Saturday at Gore's house to help raise money for their first overseas venture in the program series, to Haiti.
In Haiti, GEP will provide emergency medicine education and training; collaborate with artists at Haiti's premier film school, the Cine Institute; and also work with Surf Haiti to establish Jacmel, Haiti as a surf tourism destination. They fly out on Monday, September 15.
Still in his late 30s, Gore already has helped save and/or improve the lives of thousands, from Brooklyn to Bahia to Port au Prince, while always somehow finding the time to enjoy life.
Truth is, there's only one Robert Gore. And he's just getting started...
