What do you get when you put three creative-minded women in one room, with Ciroc, Hennessey, Patron and an idea for a little risky business? Boozy Cupcakes, of course!

Business partners Akim Vann, Martine Dallemand and Miriam Milord together on August 1 launched BCakeShop, located at 740 Bergen Street in Crown Heights, offering an array of light and delicious cupcakes infused with a variety of your favorite liqueurs.

If the name BCakeShop sounds familiar, it is because it is an offshoot of the popular BCake NY— a custom order-only cake shop, located at 702 Washington Ave, right around the corner.

Vann's business partner, Milord, opened BCake NY four years ago. But the idea for the sister, retail version of BCake NY, was sparked by Vann after she invited a group of her closest friends—makeup artists, chefs, wedding planners— together to brainstorm on a possible new business venture.

"I wasn't sure what idea we would come up with at the time, but I knew I wanted to do something with smart, women entrepreneurs," said Vann. "There were six of us I invited. But only three of us showed up."

The three that showed up were Martine and Milord, both bakers and of course Vann, who works as a student life coach.

Lucky for the three that did show up, because less than 12 months later, BCakeShop opened its doors!

But the bakeshop isn't just for the cocktail-minded. (Hardly).

Aside from the Boozy Cupcakes, BCakeShop also features a rotation of regular fresh-baked red velvet, vanilla and chocolate cupcakes iced to perfection; brownies, cookies and a small assortment of yummy vegan and gluten-free baked goods.

"We wanted to make sure we offered something for everyone, young, old, new residents, longtime residents," said Vann, who was born and raised in Brooklyn. "There's a lot of change occurring in the neighborhood right now. You can walk into some new stores and don't always feel welcome. Part of our mission was to make everyone feel this is a place they can come to and feel welcomed."

The owners' goal of capturing both the old and the new also is reflected in the store's design. The physical space exemplifies some of the old brownstone elements— such as repurposed wood recovered from the store's basement and exposed brick walls— along with modern, art deco touches that are light-hearted and playful.

BCakeShop also sells cupcake push pops, confetti rice crispies, coconut cardamom cookies and paletas (Mexican popsicles) by La NewYorkina in flavors such as mango blackberry, mango chili and cucumber lime.

Almost everything is priced between $2 - $4.

"We have all of the traditional baked goods that most people look for and expect," said Vann. "But we also like to offer a lot of the not-so-traditional items. Again, something for everyone."

Clearly, three heads are better than one, as the creativity between these three partners continues to generate new idea after new idea…

As for the other three no-shows at that brainstorming meeting last year? It's all good. They can always come indulge in a Champagne-Strawberry Boozy Cupcake, on the house!
