Police Arrest Man Who Shoots into Crowd During J'ouvert Celebration

Police caught and arrested a man identified as Derrik Goodings on Labor Day, after he fired into a crowd of J'ouvert revelers for no apparent reason.

According to reports, on Monday, September 1, at around 3:30am, Goodings fired several shots from a handgun into a crowd of revelers on Eastern Parkway who were gathered prior to the West Indian Labor Day Parade.

Two people were struck with bullets-- one with non life threatening injuries. The other victim, however, a 55-year-old man. was struck in the chest and rushed to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Bullets from Goodings's gun also struck and shattered the window of an unmarked police van. Officers in the vicinity immediately gave chase amd ended up firing a single shot at the gunman.

The shooter was arrested after a short foot pursuit, and the gun was recovered at the scene.

Also on Monday, September 1, at around 5:00am, a 22-year-old male was shot in the foot inside the basketball courts located on McKeever Place behind Ebbets Field, according to NYPD.

During an evidence search, police recovered a firearm from a garbage pail, but they said they don't believe it's the same firearm that was used in the crime.
