On Friday July 25, 2014 Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, in collaboration with volunteers from Goldman Sachs' Community TeamWorks program and a range of nonprofit and employment partners, will be holding a career and resource expo for veterans and their families.
The event will take place from 10:00am to 3:00 at Restoration Plaza, where veterans can meet with prospective employers, get screened for benefits and participate in mock interviews and small business and financial counseling workshops. Nonprofit partners include Black Veterans for Social Justice, the Posse Foundation, New York City College of Technology and Medgar Evers College, all of whom will provide information on how veterans can achieve their employment, life planning and financial goals.
Veterans also will be offered mock interview to prepare for speaking to potential employers. In addition to career support, Restoration will be providing benefits screenings and assistance with completing benefits applications.
Financial counseling sessions will occur throughout the day as well for expo visitors who are interested. Additionally, Councilmember Robert Cornegy Jr.'s office will conduct a business development workshop for veteran entrepreneurs, facilitated by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA)/ Brooklyn Small Business Development Center.
