Bed-Stuy 81st Pct Crime Blotter: Man Tied Up, Robbed at Gunpoint

Crime is down 30 percent for the week of June 23 — June 29, 2014, in the 81st Precinct, covering the eastern half of Bedford-Stuyvesant.

According to CompStat, there were 31 total reported incidents in the 81st Pct., compared to 44 incidents during this same week last year. For the 28-day cycle, crime is down 7 percent, with 126 reported incidents, compared to 135 incidents during this same time period in 2013.

And year to date, crime is up 15 percent, with 739 reported incidents, compared to 642 during this same time period last year.

Year to date, there have been three reported murders, compared to three at this same time last year.

The biggest percentage drop in crime so far is seen in the number of felony assaults— an 18 percent decrease— with 145 reported assaults compared to 177 last year. And the biggest percentage jump is in the number of auto thefts— a 150 percent increase— with 65 reported so far this year, compared to 26 last year.Screen Shot 2014-07-10 at 9.01.15 AM

Home Invasions/Robberies

On Tuesday, July 1, at around 12:30pm, a Bed-Stuy woman reported a home invasion robbery at her residence at 120 Chauncey St. The victim stated that two unidentified men pushed their way into her apartment at gunpoint while she was entering and demanded money. The victim and her daughter, who was already int h apartment, were unharmed. The two men fled in an unknown direction and the case is under investigation.

Also on Tuesday, July 1, at around 3:20pm, there was a home invasion at 604 Jefferson Ave. Two unidentified men broke into his home, tied the victim's hands and feet, began striking the victim several times in his face and on his body with a gun while demanding money. The two men then fled in an unknown direction. The case is under investigation.

Shooting

On Wednesday, July 2, at around 4:35pm, a man identified as Tinel Ely of Bed-Stuy was shot twice in the left leg in front of 731 Lexington Ave by an unidentified male. The victim was taken to Kings County Hospital and listed in good condition. Police report that the victim has been highly uncooperative with providing details for an investigation.

Also, police are investigating the source of several gunshots fired into 686 Hancock Street on Thursday, July 3, at around 11:30pm. Five shell casings were recovered at the site and there was minor property damage. There were no injuries.

Man Found Dead from Fall

On Thursday, July 3, at around 7:10pm, a man identified as Daniel Reyes was found dead on the sidewalk in front of 1086 Broadway as a result of having fallen from his rooftop. The case is under investigation.
