77th Pct. Crime Blotter: Police Arrest Man Growing Marijuana Farm on Vanderbilt

Crime is up 27 percent for the week of May 26 — June 1, 2014, in the 77th Precinct, covering the northern end of Crown Heights.

According to CompStat, there were 47 total reported incidents in the 77th Pct., compared to 37 incidents during this same week last year. For the 28-day cycle, crime is up 9 percent, with 147 reported incidents, compared to 135 incidents during this same time period in 2013.

And year to date, crime is up 8 percent, with 655 reported incidents, compared to 602during this same time period last year.

Year to date, there have been two reported murders, compared to two at this same time last year.

The biggest percentage drop in crime so far is seen in the number of rapes-- a 40 percent decrease-- with 6 reported rapes compared to 10 last year. And the biggest percentage jump is in the number of burglaries-- a 36 percent increase-- with 122 reported so far this year, compared to 90 last year.

Arrest

The 77th Precinct would like to make a community notification of an arrest made and the discovery of a marijuana farm inside of 577 Vanderbilt Avenue. The details are as follows: On Sunday, June 8, at around 3:00pm officers responded to a fire at 577 Vanderbilt Avenue.

Further investigation revealed that a marijuana farm was being grown in the basement and backyard of 577 Vanderbilt Avenue. Subsequently an arrest was made of a male, black, 45 years old, who owned and operated the marijuana farm.

Shooting

The 77th Precinct would like to make a community notification of a shooting that occurred within the confines of the 77th Precinct. The details are as follows: On Monday June 9, at around 3:30pm in front of Prospect Place, between Albany Avenue to Kingston Avenue, a 21-year-old man was shot once in the left arm by an unknown man who fled the scene in an unknown direction.

The victim was taken to Kings County Hospital and is in stable condition. He also is in police custody for an active Criminal Court Warrant.
