Bright and early Friday morning (8:00am, to be exact), Council Member Robert E. Cornegy, Jr., his wife Michelle and members of his City Council staff joined Transportation Alternatives' NYC Bike Ambassadors on the corner of Hancock and Bedford Ave in Bed-Stuy for a two-pedaled commute across the Williamsburg Bridge and into Manhattan.

The Cornegys have been cycling to work since buying bikes at a local shop as a Mother's Day gift for Michelle and an early Father's Day gift for Council Member Cornegy.DSC06536"My family has always been committed to fitness but with five children at home, fitting in workouts is tough," said Michelle Cornegy.

"Bike commuting contributes to my fitness while actually saving me time. My daily commutes are a beautiful time for me, body and soul."DSC06533"Riding the Brooklyn Bridge was humbling before I knew when to shift and what gears to use. Luckily, I had Michelle's encouragement," said the councilmember. "She met me in Manhattan that evening and we rode home together. Since then, I've been covering the district and the city by bike and I love it." DSC06522"The Cornegys are showing the whole City that riding a bike is a healthy and fun way to get around New York, and that everyone will benefit from greater access to bike share and safe bike lanes across the five boroughs," said Paul Steely White, executive director of Transportation Alternatives.
