Crime is down 11 percent for the week of May 5 — 11, 2014, in the 79th Precinct, covering the western end of Bedford-Stuyvesant.

According to CompStat, there were 33 total reported incidents in the 79th precinct, compared to 37 incidents during this same week last year. For the 28-day cycle, crime is up 2 percent, with 129 reported incidents, compared to 127 incidents during this same time period in 2013.

And year to date, crime is up 4 percent, with 532 reported incidents, compared to 510 during this same time period last year.Screen Shot 2014-05-21 at 8.53.49 AM

The biggest percentage drop in crime so far in the 79th Pct is seen in the number of murders. Year to date, there has been one reported murder, compared to four at this same time last year.

And the biggest percentage jump is in the number of car thefts and break-ins, an 86 percent increase, with 54 reported auto larcenies so far this year, compared to 29 last year.

Recent Incidents:

Sexual Assault

On Saturday, May 17, at around 1:00am, a woman was sexually assaulted in front of 564 Dekalb Avenue near the corner of Spencer Pl. The perpetrator is described as a black male with a bald head in his mid-20s, approximately 5 foot 11, 160 pounds, wearing a turquoise shirt. The man is still at large. The incident is under investigation by the Special Victims Unit.

Illegal Firearm Possession

On Monday, May 19, at around 9:30am, a 13- and 14-year-old were taken into custody at Satellite East Middle School, located at 344 Monroe Street, for possession of a loaded firearm inside a NYC Public School Bathroom. The incident is under investigation by detectives in the 79th Pct School Unit.
