Lawmakers Consider Moratorium on Upcoming Common Core Testing

State legislators are considering a moratorium on the implementation of Common Core to ease the pressure for students testing in April, State of Politics reports.

State legislators are considering a moratorium on the implementation of Common Core to ease the pressure for students testing in April, State of Politics reports.

Lawmakers said changes to the standards will be dealt with in the state budget, due Monday, before the upcoming testing period next month.

"We're talking about doing something in the budget so the testing that take place in April will be less traumatic for the students," Silver said.

The Democratic-led Assembly previously approved a two-year delay in implementing aspects of Common Core when it comes to teacher evaluations and student assessment.

Cuomo has insisted, however, that he does not want any changes to the Common Core standards to impact the teacher evaluation law approved last year.
