Crime is up 25 percent for the week of February 10 — 16, 2014, in the 81st Precinct, covering the eastern end of Bedford-Stuyvesant.

According to CompStat, there were 25 total reported incidents in the 81st precinct, compared to 20 incidents during this same week last year. For the 28-day cycle, crime is up five percent, with 109 reported incidents, compared to 104 incidents during this same time period in 2013.

And year to date, crime is up 15 percent, with 196 reported incidents, compared to 170 during this same time period last year.

Year to date, there has been one reported murder, the same number as last year at this time. The biggest drop in crime so far is seen in the number of felony assaults, a 35 percent decrease, with 30 reported year to date, compared to 46 in 2013. And the biggest jump is in the number of auto thefts, a 156 percent increase, with 23 reported so far this year, compared to nine last year.

Recent Incidents:

On Sunday, February 23, at 10:25am, a 24-year-old man was shot in the hallway of his residence at 1711 Fulton Street (between Stuyvesant and Malcolm X Blvd). According to reports, officers responded to a call by the victim and found him inside of his apartment with a gunshot wound to his left calf. The victim reported that while while he was exiting his apartment, he noticed a group of men standing on the other side of a glass door leading to the stairwell. One of the men pointed a gun in his direction and fired seven shots towards him. No arrests have been made, and detectives are currently working the case.

On Sunday, February 23, at around 5:40pm, a 44-year-old man was assaulted with in the face with a knife in front of his house, located at 254A Saratoga Avenue (between Atlantic and Herkimer). According to reports, the victim was slashed once on the head above the left eye. The victim would not provide details of the incident, but his wife told police that he was in a dispute with the group of men who were accusing him of something and then suddenly slashed him about the face and ran in an unknown direction. The victim's injures are not life threatening. No arrests have been made, and detectives are currently working the case.
