Classical opera's are are well known for their high notes, high drama, and hyperbolic displays of emotion-- all of it, ultimately, wrapped in some type of tragedy.

But when the subject of that tragedy is Milli Vanilli-- a manufactured German pop duo whose spectacular rise and fall has become an American legend-- then you know something quite random and quite special is about to happen.

In WOW, the story of Milli Vanilli is turned into an opera

The show is called WOW, debuting January 23 at Brooklyn Information and Culture (BRIC) House as an experimental opera by Fort Greene residents Joe Diebes,Christian Hawkey and David Levine.

All three artists with their respective backgrounds in music composition, poetry and theatre, are known for trying to radically rethink or reinvent their performance art. WOW will be the first time all three have collaborated together, putting their drive for reinvention towards the creation of the most antiquated multimedia spectacle of them all-- the tragic story of 90s duo Fab Morvin and Rob Pilatus.

WOW challenges the endless repetition of the CD-skip moment that led to the destruction of the pop duo's career with a real-time opera production environment in which the score, libretto, and staging intersect differently during each performance, evoking news ways of thinking and feeling about a story that's not as simple as it first may seem.

Work-in-progress performances of WOW will take place January 23-25 and January 30 - February 1, at 8:00pm at BRIC House, located at 647 Fulton Street in Downtown Brooklyn.

Tickets are $15 advance, $18 at the door and can be purchased by visiting BRICartsmedia.org or by calling OvationTix at 866.811.4111.
