In honor of Pride month, clothing retailer H&M USA set the world record for “Most People Attending a Drag Brunch" on June 10, at Brooklyn Bowl in Williamsburg. The record-setting event brought together 412 people for a morning of performances, food and drinks.
The celebratory brunch was headlined by Aquaria, winner of Season 10 of the popular reality TV show contest "RuPaul's Drag Race." Drag performers Dragon Sisters, Vena Cava, Victoria Holiday, Serena Tea, Mo'Riah and Janelle No.5, all performed during the two-hour show. The attendees dined on chicken and waffles and a full-service bar.
H&M donated to Marsha P. Johnson Institute, a national nonprofit championing Black transgender rights and a longstanding H&M collaborator, in honor of the event. H&M has not released the exact amount.
"Pride is to be supported 365 days a year, but our initiatives during June highlight this ongoing commitment," said Carlos Duarte, President of H&M Region Americas. "We will continue our consistent commitment to groups like the Marsha P. Johnson Institute, which provides vital services and empowerment to so many in need."
"This world record demonstrates that no effort will interrupt the beauty of our community," Elle Moxley, founder and CEO of MPJI, said.
