Black History Month is in full swing and there are plenty of exhibitions and events held in Brooklyn in honor of the greatest Black history makers from the borough and the African continent. The events are free, making them accessible to all residents. We've compiled five must-see exhibitions running until the end of the month.

  1. The Urban Park Rangers will host a BHM walk on February 18, at the Corner of Furman and Old Fulton Streets in Brooklyn Bridge Park. The event, held in partnership with NYC Parks, will educate attendees about Brooklyn's significant history of the abolitionist movement in the United States.
  2. Black History Month concert at the Central Library of the Brooklyn Public Library on February 24. On the line-up are violin players: Ashley Horne, Claire Chan, William Frampton, and cello player; Wayne Smith. The concert is free to the public, however, attendees are required to RSVP.
  3. The Brooklyn Museum will host a week-long celebration of the African Diaspora and Black History Month between February 18-25. The week will be filled with workshops, dance performances and storytelling.
  4. Reggae and Calypso music at the Carmine Carro Community Center in Marine Park on February 17. Marcus Steele & Friends will provide a fun lecture and performance in honor of Black History Month.
  5. The Brooklyn Children's Museum will host the Black Future Festival on February 18-25. The event, inspired by the national celebration of the African Diaspora and Black History Month, will include workshops, dance performances, and storytelling by curators Kendra J. Bostock and Bed-Stuy's STooPS
